2001. De journalist Denis Robert zet de financiële wereld op zijn kop wanneer hij de ondoorzichtige operaties van Clearstream Banking blootlegt. In zijn zoektocht naar de waarheid kruist hij het pad van rechter Renaud Van Ruymbeke, bekend om zijn inzet voor de bestrijding van corruptie en de leider in het onderzoek naar de Taiwan Frigate Affair. Hun parallelle onderzoek leidt hen naar het hart van een duister, politiek financieel systeem genaamd Clearstream, wat de Franse regerende klasse danig wakker schudt.
