Grand Hotel (1932)
Het verhaal gaat over een pluche hotel in Berlijn 'waar nooit wat gebeurt'. Grusinskaya (Garbo) is een eenzame Russische ballerina met zelfmoordneigingen, Felix von Geigern (Barrymore) is haar minnaar die eigenlijk een juwelendief is. Flaemmchen (Crawford) is een stenotypiste die bewust haar sex-appeal gebruikt om in een mannenwereld een minimum aan economische zekerheid te verkrijgen. Otto (Barrymore) is een ziekelijke boekhouder die wat geld verduisterd heeft om zich voor het laatst te buiten te kunnen gaan, terwijl Preysing (Beery) een fabrikant is die wanhopig een grote slag tot een goed einde probeert te brengen.
