The Lion in Winter (2003)

Het is het jaar 1183. Koning Hendrik II (Patrick Stewart) wordt omringd door bedrieglijke en ambitieuze familieleden, die allemaal uit zijn op persoonlijk gewin en politiek voordeel ten koste van hem. Hij is een formidabele monarch die jarenlang over Engeland heeft geregeerd, maar in de laatste dagen van zijn leven zijn eigen sterfelijkheid in twijfel begint te trekken. Nu de kerstvakantie in aantocht is, wil Henry van de gelegenheid gebruik maken om bekend te maken wie hij als troonopvolger heeft gekozen. Henry nodigt zijn vrouw, koningin Eleonora van Aquitanië (Glenn Close), uit om de festiviteiten in Chinon Castle in Frankrijk bij te wonen. Eleanor is een koninklijke verschoppeling en zit op bevel van Henry gevangen omdat ze tien jaar geleden een complot tegen hem had beraamd tijdens een politieke staatsgreep. Met behulp van haar charisma is ze vastbesloten te voorkomen dat Henry's plannen uitkomen.
