Bang the Drum Slowly (1973)
Het verhaal van een professioneel honkbalteam uit New York en twee van zijn spelers. Henry Wiggen is de sterwerper en Bruce Pearson is de gewone, alledaagse catcher, maar verre van de sterspeler van het team en de vriend van al zijn teamgenoten. Tijdens het tussenseizoen krijgt Bruce te horen dat hij terminaal ziek is, en Henry, zijn enige echte vriend, is vastbesloten om de enige persoon te zijn die er voor hem is tijdens zijn laatste seizoen bij de club. Gedurende het seizoen proberen Henry en zijn teamgenoten om te gaan met Bruce's dreigende ziekte, terwijl ze proberen zijn laatste jaar onvergetelijk te maken.
