David and Bathsheba (1951)
Smoorverliefd op de mooie Bethsheba stuurt David haar echtgenoot, de soldaat Uriah, een hopeloze veldslag in en bezegelt daarmee zijn eigen ondergang. Hij verwaarloost zijn koninkrijk en zijn geloof en haalt zich aldus Gods toorn en vernietiging van zijn rijk op de hals. Ook zijn volk, dat van Bethsheba de ultieme prijs voor overspel eist, keert zich tegen hem. De romantische obsessie van David en Bethsheba is een prachtig verfilmd, weergaloos vertolkt en meeslepend verhaal- tijdloos en mooi.
