Een kunsthandelaar uit Parijs heeft vele vrienden. Hij realiseert zich echter dat dit niet echt 'ware' vrienden zijn, maar eerder mensen die iets van hem willen. Met zijn medewerker sluit hij een weddenschap dat hij binnen acht uur een nieuwe 'beste vriend' gevonden heeft. Niet lang daarna ontmoet hij een taxichauffeur...
