Mexico-stad. Elke dag wordt Beatriz beledigd en vernederd door haar jaloerse echtgenoot, maar ze ontvlucht zijn zijde niet omdat ze een wederzijdse afhankelijkheid hebben gecreëerd en ze, althans voor haar, haar leven niet anders zou kunnen opvatten: door zich vernederd te voelen, ze voelt zich gewenst en wenselijk.
