James Van Praagh had reeds als kind paranormale ervaringen. Zijn klasgenoten vonden hem een freak en familie en vrienden waren bang van hem. Daarom besloot James zijn gaven te ontkennen en de geesten te negeren. Maar nu hij volwassen is en zijn moeder zwaar ziek in het ziekenhuis ligt, komen zijn visioenen terug, erger dan ooit tevoren. Dankzij zijn vriendin Midge en de parapsycholoog Adrian leert hij dat hij met zijn gaven ook mensen kan helpen. Zo werkt James samen met rechercheur Karen Condrin aan de oplossing van een dertig jaar oude kindermoord.
