For Sama (2019)
Documentaire van de 26-jarige Syrische journalist Waad al-Kateab, waarin zij met haar camera vijf jaar van haar leven in Aleppo tijdens de Syrische opstand tegen Assad vastlegt. Waad woont met Sama's vader, een arts in het laatst overgebleven ziekenhuis, in het door rebellen bezette Aleppo. Omringd van alle kanten, dagelijks gebombardeerd door het Syrische regime en de Russische luchtmacht, vreest Waad dat ze elk moment gedood kunnen worden. Daarom schrijft ze een videobrief aan haar eenjarige dochter Sama om uit te leggen wie haar ouders waren, waar ze voor vochten en waarom Sama ter wereld kwam.
