Spike is geen gewone gemakkelijke en knuffelige kleine egel! Ze is tot de rand toe vol energie die alleen wordt overtroffen door haar zelfverzekerde houding en een bijna te levendige verbeelding. Het is duidelijk dat ze nooit een tekort heeft aan snelle en vaak fantastische antwoorden of verklaringen. Ze houdt ervan verhalen te vertellen aan iedereen die wil - of niet wil - luisteren, waarin ze per ongeluk lijkt te verschijnen als de onverschrokken heldin die altijd de dag redt. Onnodig te zeggen dat wanneer de dieren van het bos wakker worden en ontdekken dat de magische watersteen verdwenen is en dat het bos dreigt te verdorren, waardoor ze allemaal zullen uitsterven, Spike luidkeels aankondigt dat ze de magische watersteen uit de klauwen van de beruchte Berenkoning zal halen die hem heeft gestolen.
