Ridley Scotts cultfilm Blade Runner, gebaseerd op een roman van Philip K. Dick en uitgebracht in 1982, is een van de meest invloedrijke sciencefictionfilms ooit gemaakt. De weergave van Los Angeles in het jaar 2019 is beklemmend profetisch: klimaatcatastrofe, toenemend publiek toezicht, machtige monopolistische bedrijven, hoogontwikkelde kunstmatige intelligentie; een fantastische visie op de toekomstige wereld die een beangstigende realiteit is geworden.
