Wayne Szalinski is een verstrooide wetenschapper die een verkleinmachine ontwikkelt. Wanneer iemand een honkbal door de ruit en in de baan van de laser van de machine slaat, begint deze te werken. Wayne's kinderen en twee buurkinderen worden verkleind. Wayne veegt ze per ongeluk op, en zet ze weg bij het afval, en dus moeten de kinderen door de tuin reizen, terug het huis in.
