De Zuidelijke superspion Johnny en zijn partner in crime Steve reizen tegen het einde van de burgeroorlog naar San Francisco, waar ze zich respectievelijk voordoen als zanger/gitaarinstructeur en verkoper van magie-elixer. Eenmaal daar aangekomen, zet Johnny een neppruik, baard en snor op en steelt hij goud van de Unie om terug te brengen naar het zuiden, geholpen door een gitaar die ook dienst doet als pistool.
