Aan de hand van interviews met enkele van 's werelds meest vooraanstaande economen, waaronder woningmarktexpert Robert Shiller, Nobelprijswinnaar Joseph Stiglitz en economisch historicus Louis Hyman, evenals insiders van Wall Street en slachtoffers van de crisis, zoals Ed Andrews – een voormalig economiecorrespondent van The New York Times die met een huisuitzetting werd geconfronteerd – en Andrew Luan, ooit obligatiehandelaar bij Deutsche Bank en nu eigenaar van een eigen bedrijf voor rondleidingen door Wall Street, presenteert de film een origineel en meeslepend beeld van de giftige combinatie van krachten die de wereldeconomie bijna ten gronde richtte.
