James Daniel May (geboren 16 januari 1963) is een Engelse televisiepresentator, journalist en schrijver. May is het meest bekend als co-presentator van het autoprogramma Top Gear, samen met Jeremy Clarkson en Richard Hammond. May heeft een variëteit aan andere programma's gepresenteerd met thema's als wetenschap en technologie, kinderspeelgoed, autos, eten en drinken, en de benarde situatie van mannelijkheid in moderne tijden. In aanvulling hierop heeft hij ook een variëteit aan dvd's en boeken met soortgelijke thema's uitgebracht en schrijft hij een wekelijkse column voor de autosectie van The Daily Telegraph. Bij Top Gear heeft May de bijnaam "Captain Slow", wegens zijn voorzichtige rijstijl, een liefde voor kleine auto's met gering vermogen en zijn gewoonte om afgeleid te raken en te verdwalen tijdens het rijden. In een aflevering van Top Gear uit februari 2007 heeft hij een succesvolle testrit op topsnelheid gedaan in een Bugatti Veyron op het Volkswagen testcircuit in Ehra-Lessien, waar hij 407 kilometer per uur haalde. In juli 2010 herhaalde hij de poging in de geüpdatete Bugatii Veyron Super Sport, waar hij de topsnelheid van 417.6 kilometer per uur in haalde, waarmee hij bevestigde dat het de titel van snelste wegauto in productie weer terug had.
