Zoë Yadira Saldana werd geboren op 19 juni 1978 in Passaic NJ als kind van een Puerto Ricaanse moeder en een Dominicaanse vader. Haar familie verhuisde naar de Dominicaanse Republiek toen ze tien jaar oud was. Daar beoefende ze ballet op een van de meest prestigieuze dansscholen van het land. Saldana keerde op 17-jarige leeftijd terug naar New York, waar ze zich begon te bemoeien met theatergroepen zoals Faces en het New York Youth Theatre. Dankzij haar balletopleiding kreeg ze haar eerste rol op het scherm als Eva in de dansfilm Center Stage (2000). De carrière van de actrice bleef bloeien met rollen in Pirates of The Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003) met Johnny Depp, The Terminal (2004) met Tom Hanks en Guess Who (2005) tegenover Ashton Kutcher. Saldana blijft acteren en modelleren met redactionele functies in Elle, Vanity Fair, V, GQ Italia en Nylon. Saldana is het meest bekend voor het uitbeelden van Gamora in het Marvel Cinematic Universe. Ze heeft het personage geportretteerd in Guardians of the Galaxy (2014), Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017), Avengers: Infinity War (2018) en Avengers: Endgame (2019).
