Biografie Penélope Cruz Sánchez (geboren 28 april 1974) is een Spaanse actrice. Ze is een productieve actrice in zowel Spaanstalige als Engelstalige films en heeft onder andere een Academy Award, een BAFTA Award, een David di Donatello en drie Goya Awards gewonnen. Cruz maakte haar televisiedebuut op 16-jarige leeftijd en haar speelfilmdebuut het jaar daarop in Jamón Jamón (1992). Haar latere rollen omvatten Belle Époque (1992), Open Your Eyes (1997), Don Juan (1998), The Hi-Lo Country (1999), The Girl of Your Dreams (2000) en Woman on Top (2000). Ze werkte samen met de Spaanse regisseur Pedro Almodóvar in Live Flesh (1997), All About My Mother (1999), Volver (2006), Broken Embraces (2009) en I'm So Excited! (2013), Pain and Glory (2019) en Parallel Mothers (2021). Voor haar rol in Woody Allens romantische drama Vicky Cristina Barcelona (2008) won Cruz de Academy Award voor Beste Bijrolactrice. Haar andere Oscar-genomineerde rollen waren in Volver (2006), Nine (2009) en Parallel Mothers (2021).
