Мсье Контен много лет не уезжал из своей деревни. И вот, преодолев страх перед большим путешествием, он отправляется в Лион, чтобы навестить свою дочь Мари-Луизу. Найти девушку в большом городе оказалось непросто. После встречи с друзьями Мари-Луизы отцу становится ясно — его дочь стала проституткой. Контен многое повидал на своем веку, но этот удар оказался самым тяжелым. Как об этом рассказать жене, ведь именно она отправила дочь в город в надежде на лучшую жизнь?
