В поезде русский писатель Федор знакомится с красавицей Полиной и теряет голову от любви. Она рассказвает ему о своих несчастьях, и влюбленный Федор решается на отчаянный шаг — он идет в казино, чтобы выиграть деньги и помочь Полине. Он завоевал её любовь, но стал жертвой азарта. Ему уже не нужна Полина, ему нужна только игра…
