Молодая пара — Джастин и Тесс Куэйл — участвуют в британской дипломатической миссии в Кении. Все идет своим чередом до того момента, как Тесс находят мертвой. Рядом с телом девушки обнаруживают труп туземца, что бросает серьезную тень на ее репутацию и дает пищу для разного рода обидных толков.
