Бенджи Тейлор — молодой полицейский из Лос-Анджелеса, самое большое увлечение которого — спортивные автомобили. Тэд Вэррик — богатый бездельник, чье единственное хобби — угонять красивые и мощные авто. Расследуя дело об угонах автомобилей, совершенных Вэрриком, погибает полицейский. Бенджи Тейлор делает логичный вывод: это убийство — дело рук Воррика. Чтобы доказать вину подозреваемого, Бенджи знакомится с Тэдом.
