Где-то в безлюдной техасской пустыне Мелквадеса Эстраду сначала убивают, а затем здесь же спешно хоронят без должных почестей. Позже тело находят и перезахоранивают на кладбище городка Ван Хорн. Местный фермер Пит Перкинс, друг Эстрады, похищает местного полицейского и заставляет его выкопать тело. С заложником на привязи и с телом, привязанным к мулу, Пит отправляется в опасное путешествие в Мексику с целью захоронить тело по справедливости и раскрыть тайну убийства…
