Несчастный 10-летний Лукас Никль никак не может устроиться на новом месте. Недавно переехав с семьёй в новый город он до сих пор не нашёл ни одного друга. К тому же его родители, уделяют ему слишком мало внимания, а от сестры-подростка Тиффани можно ждать одних только неприятностей. Но хуже всего, что Лукас стал главной мишенью местного задиры Стива, который не упускает ни малейшей возможности поиздеваться над ним. В ответ на это Лукас находит себе развлечение в разрушении муравейников на заднем дворе своего дома, выплёскивая свою досаду на беззащитные холмики земли и их ни в чём не повинных обитателей.Но он и не догадывается, что прямо под его ногами живёт, находящийся в постоянном движении, целый мир, и то, что ему кажется всего лишь «кучкой маленьких муравьёв» на самом деле целое общество с именами и родством, ответственностью и эмоциями. Терпение муравьёв от постоянного топтания их домов Лукасом-Разрушителем истощается, и они готовы нанести ответный удар.
