Американский актер. Отец Ричарда Уидмарка был шведом, мать - англичанкой, однако родился и вырос он в Америке. Актерское мастерство изучал в колледже Лэйк-Форэст, где, уже став известным актером, преподавал впоследствии. С 1938 работал на радио, а в 1943 дебютировал в театральной постановке на Бродвее. В кино впервые появился в 1947 году, его дебютной картиной стал фильм-нуар «Поцелуй смерти» режиссера Генри Хэтуэя, причем сам режиссер никогда бы не взял Уидмарка на роль, если бы не продюсер картины, Дэррил Ф. Занук. Однако эта первая работа оказалась более чем успешной, актер-дебютант был удостоин «Золотого глобуса» за «лучший актерский дебют», а также номинации на «Оскар» за «лучшую мужскую роль второго плана». За время своей карьеры актер снялся более чем в 60 фильмах, среди которых «Ночь и город», «Убийство в „Восточном экспрессе“», «Нюрнбергский процесс». Помимо работы в кино, Ричард Уидмарк работал на телевидении с 1954 года. Умер актер в возрасте 93 лет в Коннектикуте, США.
