Американский киноактёр, продюсер, авто- и мотогонщик. Настоящее имя — Терренс Стивен МакКуин. Родился 24 марта 1930 года в Бич Грув, штат Индиана, США. Учился в школе драматического искусства и в нью-йоркской актёрской студии Ли Страсберга (мастерская Уты Хайген и Герберта Бергхофа). В 1952 году впервые вышел на профессиональную сцену, ещё будучи студентом. С 1955 года — на Бродвее. В кино с 1956 года, исполнил эпизодическую роль в фильме режиссёра Роберта Уайза "Кто-то там наверху любит меня". Известность получил, исполнив главную роль в приключенческом телесериале "Разыскивается живым или мёртвым" (1958-1961). Стив МакКуин прославился исполнением "крутых" парней, одиночек, ироничных и циничных героев, готовых бороться за справедливость. Фильмы с участием Стива МакКуина, сделавшие его звездой на голливудском небосклоне в 1960-е и 1970-е годы: "Великолепная семёрка" (1960, реж. Джон Стерджес), "Большой побег" (1963 Премия на МКФ в Москве), "Малыш, дождь должен пойти / Детка, может начаться дождь" (1965, реж. Роберт Маллиган), "Афера Томаса Крауна" и Буллит" (оба 1968, реж. Норман Джуисон), "Побег" (1972, реж. Сэм Пекинпа), "Охотник" (1980, реж. Базз Кулик) и др. C 1973 по 1978 годы был женат на актрисе Эли МакГроу, своей напарнице по фильму "Побег" (1972). Стив МакКуин ушёл из жизни 7 ноября 1980 года от рака лёгких в Сьюдад-Хуарес, Чиуауа, Мексика. Его прах развеяли над Тихим океаном.
