Деннис Хоуи (урождённый Сэмюэл Дэвид Хайамс) - британский актёр театра и кино, наиболее известный по роли инспектора Лестрейда в шести фильмах Universal серии фильмов о Шерлоке Холмсе. Хоуи родился в Лондоне под именем Сэмюэл Дэвид Хайамс в семье Эллиса и Лии (Грин) Хайамс, которые были потомками русских евреев и владели отелем типа «постель и завтрак» в Брайтоне, Восточный Суссекс. Хоуи получил образование в Брайтонском колледже и изначально планировал стать учителем. Он служил в британской армии во время Первой мировой войны. После карьеры певца, в том числе выступлений перед британскими солдатами во время службы, в 1918 году он начал играть в театре, а затем и в кино. В 1931 году Хоуи переехал в США и начал карьеру в Голливуде.
