Американская актриса немого и звукового кино. Настоящее имя — Люсиль Фэй Лесюр. С детства хотела стать танцовщицей, брала уроки, регулярно участвовала в танцевальных конкурсах. В 1923 году выиграла любительский конкурс эстрадных исполнителей в Канзас-Сити и уехала выступать в клубах Чикаго, Детройта и Нью-Йорка. В начале 1925 года решает попытать счастья в Голливуде и почти сразу получает роль в фильме «Красавицы». Снималась в фильмах «Весенняя лихорадка», «Через Сингапур», «Вне подозрений», «Путь фламинго», «Эти опасные женщины», «Королева пчёл» и других. В 1946 году удостоилась премии «Оскар» за лучшую женскую роль в фильме «Милдред Пирс». Последнюю крупную роль в кино исполнила в психологическом триллере «Что случилось с Бэби Джейн?», где выступила дуэтом с давней неприятельницей Бетт Дэвис. 10 мая 1977 года скоропостижно скончалась от сердечного приступа. Через полтора года её приёмная дочь Кристина опубликовала книгу воспоминаний «Дорогая мамочка», в которой нарисовала весьма нелестный портрет актрисы. Книга вызвала множество споров и стала бестселлером.
