In einem längst vergangenen Zeitalter ist der kleine Bracheosaurier Littlefoot, nach dem plötzlichen Tod seiner Mutter, ganz alleine. So macht er sich auf, das "Große Tal" zu finden, in dem es noch Nahrung im Überfluss geben soll. Dabei trifft er auf vier weitere Jungsaurier, die sich ihm auf seiner Suche anschließen. Ihre wagemutige Reise durch die fremde Urwelt ist voller Abenteuer…
