Die legendären Geheimagenten George Woodhouse (Michael Fassbender) und seine Frau Kathryn (Cate Blanchett) stehen im Zentrum eines politischen Sturms, als Kathryn plötzlich des Landesverrats beschuldigt wird. Für George, der sowohl seiner Frau als auch seinem Land bedingungslos treu ist, beginnt ein innerer Konflikt.
