Irgendwo in der Prärie: Eine bunt zusammengewürfelte Truppe hat sich in der Tankstelle eines alten Indianers einquartiert. Auf den Sprit brauchen sie nicht zu warten – der Nachschub-LKW liegt explodiert auf der nahen Straße. Schlecht gelaunt sind auch die lokalen Rancher, deren Vieh in der vorigen Nacht gerissen wurde. Die Polizistin Annie soll sich um die Vorfälle kümmern. Ihre Ermittlungen finden ein jähes Ende, als die Tankstelle von einer fremdartigen Kreatur attackiert wird. Auf der Flucht in die umliegenden Berge treffen die Überlebenden auf einen seltsamen Archäologen, der mehr über die Gefahr zu wissen scheint.
