Auch nach dem Ende der Sklaverei ist das Joch der ehemaligen Sklaven noch nicht beendet. Sie schuften nun als schlechtbezahlte Arbeiter für die weißen Landbesitzer und werden oftmals um ihren gerechten Lohn betrogen. So werden ihnen statt ihrer Lohntüten nur Gutscheine ausgehändigt, die als Zahlungsmittel allein in den Geschäften der weißen Oberschicht gültig sind. So oder so können sich die Arbeiter von ihrem Lohn kaum das Nötigste leisten. Sie haben zu viel zum Sterben und zu wenig zum Leben. Günstige Voraussetzungen für zwielichtige Gestalten, die aus dem Unmut der Männer Profit ziehen möchten und einen Aufstand anzetteln ...
