Girl Rising (2013)
Der Dokumentarfilmer Richard Robbins beleuchtet in seinem Film das Schicksal von neun jungen Frauen aus unterschiedlichen Teilen der Welt, die in ihrem Leben mit arrangierten Hochzeiten, Kindersklaverei und anderen Ungerechtigkeiten konfrontiert wurden. Der Film versucht ihre Stärke trotz dieser Unwegbarkeiten und ihr ehrgeiziges Streben nach Bildung aufzuzeigen, die einen Ausbruch aus jenem Leben verspricht. Zusammengetragen von Autorinnen aus den neun Heimatländern der Mädchen und erzählt von so namhaften Schauspielgrößen wie Cate Blanchett, Meryl Streep und Liam Neeson, demonstriert Robbins in den verschiedenen Geschichten, wie der Weg seiner Protagonistinnen nicht nur die Mädchen selbst verändern, sondern auch der Welt um sie herum Hoffnung und Inspiration geben kann.
