An seinem 14. Geburtstag erfährt Will Stanton, dass er einer Gruppe von Auserwählten angehört, die ihr Leben dem Kampf gegen die Mächte der Finsternis verschrieben haben. Um sich auf seinen Kampf vorzubereiten, reist er durch die Zeit und findet dort zahlreiche Hinweise, die ihm helfen seine magischen Fähigkeiten zu verstehen und einzusetzen.
