Louisa Clark und Will Traynor könnten kaum unterschiedlicher sein. Sie ist ein einfaches Mädchen aus der Kleinstadt, das in einem kleinen Café arbeitet und mit ihrem einfachen Leben eigentlich ganz zufrieden ist, bis sie ihren Job verliert. Vor seinem Unfall hatte Will alles, er war jung, erfolgreich und ein Draufgänger wie er im Bilderbuch steht. Jetzt, wo er an den Rollstuhl gefesselt ist, ist er depressiv und launisch. Will hält sein Leben nicht mehr für lebenswert, bis Lou in sein Leben tritt, um sechs Monate seine Pflegerin zu sein. Und die kennt von Anfang an keine falsche Zurückhaltung. Nach ersten Anlaufschwierigkeiten raufen sich die beiden zusammen und Lou merkt, dass Wills Glück ihr immer wichtiger wird – und ist alarmiert, als ihr klar wird, warum sie für nur sechs Monate eingestellt wurde …
