Max muss einige große Veränderungen in seinem Leben verkraften, als seine Besitzerin heiratet und ein Baby bekommt. Als die Familie einen Ausflug aufs Land macht, hat der nervöse Max zahlreiche Begegnungen mit hundefeindlichen Kühen, feindseligen Füchsen und einem furchterregenden Truthahn. Zum Glück lernt er Rooster kennen, einen ruppigen Hofhund, der versucht, den liebenswerten Hund von seinen Neurosen zu heilen.
