Die Wege von Chip und Chap haben sich nach dem Ende ihrer erfolgreichen TV-Serie getrennt. Jeder hat sich für sein eigenes Leben entschieden, der Kontakt ist abgebrochen und zwischen den ehemals besten Freunden herrscht Funkstille. Aus dem einst motivierten und übereifrigen Chip ist ein typischer Vertreter geworden, der sich in einem spießigen Vorstadtleben eingerichtet hat. Chap kann von den Erinnerungen an die alten Zeiten nicht ablassen und hat sich einer CGI-Operation unterzogen. Mit frischem Look und modernem Aussehen verdient er sich mit Auftritten bei Fanconventions sein Geld. Als ein ehemaliger Kollege und Freund der Streifenhörnchen spurlos verschwindet, bleibt den beiden Detektiven keine andere Wahl, als sich wieder zu vereinen und dem mysteriösen Vorfall nachzugehen.
