Witwer Terry hat sich mit seinem Sohn Jordan und Vierbeiner Zeus auf die Bahamas zurückgezogen, wo er eine Rock-Oper komponieren will. In unmittelbarer Nachbarschaft wohnen Judith und Nora sowie deren alleinerziehende Mutter, die Meeresbiologin Mary Beth, die gerade den in Gefangenschaft geborenen Delphin Roxanne auf ein Leben in der Freiheit vorbereitet. Als Roxanne eines Tages den zutraulichen Zeus vor einem Hai rettet, freunden sich die beiden Tiere an. Dies hat auch für deren Besitzer romantische Folgen.
