Patti Cake$ (2017)
Die aus einer heruntergekommen Stadt im US-Bundesstaat New Jersey stammende Patricia Dombrowski (Danielle Macdonald), auch Killa P oder Patti Cake$ genannt, ist eine aufstrebende Rapperin, die sich ihren unwahrscheinlichen Weg zum Ruhm bahnen will. Wegen ihres Nachnamens sowie ihrer üppigen Körpermaße wird sie von anderen als „Dumbo“ gehänselt, doch das hält die Jugendliche ebenso wenig auf wie die Tatsache, dass sie für die Arztrechnungen ihrer kranken Mutter (Bridget Everett) aufkommen muss. Unterstützung erfährt Patti von ihrer Oma (Cathy Moriarty) und ihren beiden einzigen Freunden: Ihrem Rap-Partner Hareesh (Siddharth Dhananjay) und dem Gothic-Metal-Fan Basterd (Mamoudou Athie), mit dessen Hilfe sie sich Zugang zur Hip-Hop-Szene erhofft.
