Mapplethorpe (2019)
Von den frühen 1970er Jahren, als der abtrünnige Sohn katholischkonservativer Eltern mit der jungen Patti Smith im berühmt-berüchtigten Chelsea Hotel die Kunst wie auch seine Lust auf Männer entdeckte, bis hin zu seinem frühen Tod im Alter von 42 Jahren erforscht der Film Mapplethorpes ganz persönliche Synthese von Kunst und Sexualität, seinen Kampf um Anerkennung und darüber hinaus die Tragödie der aufkommenden AIDS-Krise. Hauptdarsteller Matt Smith (DOCTOR WHO) überzeugt in der Darstellung des ehrgeizigen Künstlers mit gefährlich selbstzerstörerischen Impulsen.
