Jede Sekunde zählt - The Guardian (2006)
Ben Randall ist einer der erfahrensten Rettungsschwimmer der US-amerikanischen Küstenwache und hat bereits mehrere hundert Menschen gerettet. Doch bei einem schweren Unfall auf hoher See muss er hilflos mit ansehen, wie alle seine Kameraden ums Leben kommen. Kurz darauf wird Ben an die Militärakademie versetzt, um junge Rettungsschwimmer auszubilden. Dabei zeichnet er sich durch besonders harte und neuartige Trainingsmethoden aus, die den Anwärtern klarmachen soll, wie sich ein Einsatz im Ernstfall anfühlt. Ein besonders hartes Training macht er mit dem Ausnahmeathleten Jake Fischer, der sich dadurch zu einem hervorragenden Rettungsschwimmer entwickelt. Jake besteht die Abschlussprüfung und wird zur Küstenwache von Kodiak, Alaska versetzt, wo auch Ben stationiert ist, nachdem er sich wieder einsatzbereit erklärt hat.
