Die kleine Sally Matthews ist verstummt, seit ihr Vater ums Leben kam. Kinderpsychater Jake Beerlander diagnostiziert Autismus. Doch ihre Mutter Ruth glaubt nicht an diese Theorie; sie ist sich sicher, den Schlüssel zur Lösung in dem Kartenhaus zu finden, das Sally in ihrem Zimmer errichtet hat.
