In 200.000 Jahren hat sich die menschliche Stimme zu dem komplexen Instrument entwickelt, das es heute ist. Obwohl Wissenschaftler nun in der Lage sind, sie mit Hilfe digitaler Technologien aufzuzeichnen, zu übermitteln und wiederzugeben, kommt bisher keine künstliche Klangkombination an den Umfang und die emotionale Kraft der menschlichen Stimme heran. Die Stimme spielt im Alltag eine zentrale Rolle: Sie verbindet das ungeborene Baby mit seiner Mutter, hilft bei der Partnerwahl, dient als demokratisches Element und dem Ausdruck von Gefühlen. Wenn sie aus den Tiefen des menschlichen Körpers an die Außenwelt dringt, erzählt sie einiges über die Identität ihres Besitzers. Evolution und Kultur haben die menschliche Stimme jahrtausendelang geprägt - wird sie auch das Zeitalter von Computern, Sprachrobotern und globaler Kommunikation überleben?
