Die Revolution überschattet Russland und wie durch ein Wunder wird die jüngste Zarentochter, Prinzessin Anastasia, als einziges Mitglied der kaiserlichen Familie gerettet. Die Jahre sind vergangen und aus der Prinzessin wurde das arme Waisenmädchen Anya. Sie ahnt nicht, wer sie wirklich ist und ist fest entschlossen, ihre wahre Identität zu finden. Gemeinsam mit dem charmanten Betrüger Dimitri, seinem Freund Vladimir und dem niedlichen Hund Pooka macht sie sich auf den Weg nach Paris. Ein unglaubliches Abenteuer steht den Gefährten bevor, denn der gemeine Rasputin und die ulkige Fledermaus Bartok setzen all ihre magischen Kräfte ein, damit Anya ihr Ziel niemals erreicht.
