Ein doppelt riskanter Job: drei Jahre lang erledigt der hochbegabte Computerspezialist Michael Jennings Geheimaufträge für die Rethrick-Corporation. Er weiß genau, auf was er sich dabei einlässt. Denn die Bezahlung ist hoch! Einzige Bedingung: alle Erinnerungen werden nach Beendigung der Projekte aus dem Gedächtnis gelöscht. Doch statt des Geldes erwartet ihn nur ein Umschlag mit zwanzig scheinbar wertlosen Dingen.
