'Beefcake', ein Film vom preisgekrönten Regisseur Thom Fitzgerald nach dem gleichnamigen Buch von Valentine Hooven III. In den fünfziger Jahren waren sie so populär wie nie: Sport-Illustrierte, 'Physique Magazines', Magazine voller Bilder von gutgeölt-glänzenden Muskelmännern, dazu gab es durchaus ernst gemeinte Ratschläge zur Förderung der eigenen körperlichen Gesundheit. Doch hinter den schönen Körpern verbarg sich eine Geheimwelt, die sich nur wenigen Insidern öffnete. Thom Fitzgerald, der Regisseur des preisgekrönten Films 'The Event' (2003) und 'The Hanging Garden' (1997), führt uns hinter die Kulissen dieser geheimnisvollen Welt. 'Beefcake' ist die erstaunliche und zugleich provokante Geschichte vom Aufstieg und Fall des Fotografen Bob Mizer. Mizer war Verleger des populären Magazins "Physique Pictorial", welches eine treue Anhängerschaft sowohl unter schwulen Männern, Frauen als auch arrivierten Athleten besaß - bis Mizer deswegen vor Gericht kam.
