Joe Dallesandro wurde aufgrund seiner körperlichen Vorzüge ein Star Andy Warhols. Später strebte er eine Schauspielerkarriere an, doch in Erinnerung bleibt in erster Linie sein Penis. Die internationale Kunstszene schätzt sein bestes Stück. Der Stricher Joe Dallesandro wird von Andy Warhols Freund Paul Morrissey in einer Kneipe entdeckt. Als Warhol den Film “Lonesome Cowboys” dreht – er will beweisen, dass die meisten Rinderhirten schwul waren, ist Joe Dallesandro für ihn die Idealbesetzung. Sie drehen in Folge weitere Filme und sowohl Dallesandro als auch sein Penis ziehen ein ins Museum of Modern Art. Als Dallesandro in den 1980ern keine Rollen mehr bekam, meinte Warhol “Er hat noch immer diesen verdammt großen Schwanz. Warum macht er nichts damit? Er ist dumm. D.U.M.M.”. Warhol ließ ihn fallen, Francis Ford Coppola fing ihn auf und besetzte das einstige Sexidol für “Cotton Club” als “Lucky Luciano”. TV-Serien wie “The Hitchhiker” und “Miami Vice” sicherten ihm weiterhin Einkommen und Popularität. John Waters engagierte ihn später für “Cry Baby”, doch sein Kapital, der schöne Körper, legt ihn für immer fest auf die Entdeckung durch Warhol.
