Joanne Gignilliat Trimmier Woodward ist eine US-amerikanische Schauspielerin im Ruhestand. Ihren Durchbruch feierte sie in den 1950er-Jahren mit der Darstellung komplexer Frauenfiguren, die durch Nuancenreichtum und Tiefe bestachen. Zu ihren Auszeichnungen zählen ein Oscar, drei Primetime Emmy Awards, ein British Academy Film Award, drei Golden Globe Awards und ein Screen Actors Guild Award. Sie ist die älteste lebende Oscar-Preisträgerin in der Kategorie „Beste Hauptdarstellerin“. Woodward ist vor allem für ihre Darstellung einer Frau mit dissoziativer Identitätsstörung in „Die drei Gesichter der Eva“ (1957) bekannt, für die sie einen Oscar und einen Golden Globe Award als „Beste Hauptdarstellerin in einem Filmdrama“ erhielt. Bis zu seinem Tod im Jahr 2008 war sie fünfzig Jahre lang mit dem Schauspieler Paul Newman verheiratet, mit dem sie häufig zusammenarbeitete, sei es als Co-Star oder als Schauspielerin in Filmen, die von ihm inszeniert oder produziert wurden. Im Jahr 1990 erwarb Woodward im Alter von 60 Jahren einen Bachelor-Abschluss am Sarah Lawrence College und schloss ihr Studium zusammen mit ihrer Tochter Clea ab.
