Paltrow gab ihr Bühnendebüt 1990 und begann 1991 in Filmen mitzuwirken. Sie erhielt bereits früh Aufmerksamkeit für ihre Arbeit in Filmen wie "Se7en" (1995), "Emma" (1996), in der sie die Titelrolle spielte, und "Sliding Doors" (1998). Sie erhielt weltweite Anerkennung durch ihre schauspielerische Leistung in "Shakespeare in Love" (1998), für die sie den Oscar als beste Schauspielerin, einen Golden Globe Award und zwei Screen Actors Guild Awards für herausragende Hauptdarstellerin und als Mitglied der herausragenden Besetzung erhielt. Seitdem spielte Paltrow sowohl Neben-, als auch Hauptrollen in Filmen wie "Der talentierte Mr. Ripley" (1999), "Shallow Hal" (2001) und "Proof" (2005). Im Jahr 2008 erschien sie in dem erfolgreichsten Film ihrer Karriere, dem Superhelden-Film Iron Man, und wiederholte dann ihre Rolle als Pepper Potts in dessen Fortsetzung Iron Man 2 (2010). Paltrow ist zudem seit 2005 das Gesicht von Estée Lauders Pleasures-Parfüm.
