Betty Blythe (geboren als Elizabeth Blythe Slaughter, 1. September 1893 – 7. April 1972) war eine US-amerikanische Schauspielerin, die vor allem für ihre dramatischen Rollen in exotischen Stummfilmen wie „Die Königin von Saba“ (1921) bekannt ist. Im Laufe ihrer Karriere wirkte sie in 63 Stummfilmen und 56 Tonfilmen mit. Sie ist berühmt dafür, in den Goldenen Zwanzigern eine der ersten Schauspielerinnen gewesen zu sein, die nackt oder fast nackt vor der Kamera standen. Sie soll gesagt haben: „Neben Ihrem Ehemann ist nur ein Regisseur der Mann, der Ihnen vorschreiben kann, wie viel Sie von Ihren Kleidern ablegen sollen.“ Blythe begann ihre Bühnenkarriere mit Stücken wie „So Long Letty“ und „Die Pfauenprinzessin“. Sie trat im Varieté als „California Nightingale“ auf und sang Lieder wie „Love Tales from Hoffman“. Nach Tourneen durch Europa und die USA begann sie 1918 ihre Filmkarriere bei den Vitagraph Studios in Brooklyn. Anschließend wurde sie als Ersatz für die Schauspielerin Theda Bara zu den Fox Studios in Hollywood geholt. Berühmt für ihre freizügigen Kostüme ebenso wie für ihr schauspielerisches Talent, wurde sie zum Star in exotischen Filmen wie „Die Königin von Saba“ (1921) (in dem sie außer einer Perlenkette nichts oberhalb der Taille trug), „Chu-Chin-Chow“ (gedreht 1923; US-Kinostart 1925 durch MGM) und „She“ (1925). Auch in weniger freizügigen Filmen wie „Nomads of the North“ (1920) mit Lon Chaney und „In Hollywood“ mit Potash und Perlmutter (1924), produziert von Samuel Goldwyn, konnte sie überzeugen. Weitere Rollen umfassten einen Auftritt als Opernstar, allerdings ohne Nennung im Abspann von Garbos „The Mysterious Lady“. Sie arbeitete weiterhin als Charakterdarstellerin. Eine ihrer letzten Rollen war eine kleine, nicht im Abspann erwähnte Nebenrolle in einer Massenszene in „My Fair Lady“ von 1964.
