Gordon Edward Pinsent war ein kanadischer Schauspieler, Autor, Regisseur und Sänger. Er begann seine Karriere in den 1940er Jahren mit Hörspielen, bevor er seinen Wehrdienst in der kanadischen Armee antrat. Seine vier Jahrzehnte umspannende Karriere umfasste Bühne, Fernsehen und Film. Er spielte Hauptrollen in bekannten Werken wie „Quentin Durgens MP“, „The Rowdyman“ und „Power Play“. Er erhielt zahlreiche Auszeichnungen, darunter ACTRA-, GENIE- und GEMINI-Awards, und wurde von mehreren Universitäten mit Ehrendoktorwürden ausgezeichnet. Pinsents Talent erstreckte sich auch auf das Schreiben; seine Romane dienten als Vorlage für Spielfilme, und er verfasste seine Memoiren „By the Way“. Er verband eine enge Freundschaft mit Marlon Brando, mit dem er oft Autokinos besuchte.
